Interpretive Center

The second floor of the Grist Mill serves as an Interpretive Center. In this educational setting, you can view displays concerning the Franklin Creek Grist Mill as well as our partners in the Lower Rock River Watershed. Our partners include Nachusa Grasslands, Chaplin Creek Historic Site, Lee County Natural Area Guardians, Dixon Park District, Hennepin Canal, and the Green River Recreational Area.

On the outer walls can be found forty-three wooden panels that represent tree species that occur in the State of Illinois, most of them being native species.

You may also view a model of the Grist Mill as it was envisioned in 1989 by Donald Baker, who played a very significant role in envisioning and building the Mill.
