Local Aviation

I'm a Private Pilot. I'm active in several local aviation groups.

Our local airport is Ogle County Airport (C55).  The group that owns and operates it is called Ogle County Pilots, Inc.  C55 is a "privately owned, for public use" airport.

Rock River Flyers is a flying club based at C55.  We own an Aeronca Champ (7AC), a Cessna 172, and a Beechcraft Sundowner.

EAA Chapter 682 is also based at C55. Presently our chapter's project is the restoration of a Monnett Moneria (motor glider). I was build in the early 80s, but has spent most of its life in storage within its trailer. This situation was NOT mouse-proof and they've done their damage. We recently removed the wingtips to inspect the wings. After we thorough clean them, we'll run a camera inside to assess the condition. Click here to go to its page and see some pictures.

For a number of years I flew for the Rock River Valley Skydivers, based at Whiteside County Airport (SQI) in Rock Falls, IL.  Due to the demands of a young family and a house, my skydive piloting time is over.  I had a lot of fun, it was great experience, and it greatly improved my piloting skills.

For several years, I flew for the Ogle County Sheriff's Department.  Before insurance industry greed forced the county to sell it, they own a Cessna 182 which was used for prisoner transports, search and rescue, and surveillance. North central Illinois lost a very effective law enforcement tool when the Sheriff was forced to sell it.
