I have been sleepy all day, but I get into bed finally after a long day
- and can I get to sleep?
So now I am sitting here with an especially delicious cup of coffee and
listening to George Winston's "December" CD; and I am feeling very thankful.
God is so good.
But life around here has been a struggle. The phrase, "Life really bites," has been spoken
recently. Things aren't at all going the way we would hope. They feel hopelessly
off the track. The house is a mess, not to mention basically falling down
around us. The kids have no idea what the word "cooperation"
means. Getting homework done every night is a nightmare. There are still
dirty dishes in the sink because there just aren't enough hours in the
day to get done all that needs to be done.
But despite all of that, I can say God is so good. Even though they are
a pain, the children he has given us are a wonderful blessing. The world
he has given us is filled with wonder and delight.
But most important of all, God loves us.
God's love for us is eternal and never
failing. And somehow, day by day, through all these struggles, God is bringing us
into the fullness of that love. That is what this life is all about. At
the end of this journey is a prize beyond imagining - the pure fullness
of God's love.
It seems these days everyone is talking about their "mission statement."
Every organization has a "mission statement." It must be the
hundred monkey theory at work.
Somehow it wasn't enough that those hundred monkeys were getting their
bananas. They had to develop a mission statement.
The 100 Monkey Mission Statement:
Get more bananas
(wait for it!)
Now EVERYBODY has to have a mission statement.
So I was thinking, what would be my personal mission statement? When I
get up tomorrow, what should the goal of my day be? What should guide the
choices I make? If I had a mission statement I could ask, when faced with
the choice of doing this or that, is this going to help me accomplish my
mission today? Or would my mission be better served doing something else?
That might not be a bad idea.
So what is my mission?
Love God with all my heart.
