They were married in St. Michael’s and Zion Church in Philadelphia, and lived in
Northampton County. In the Revolutionary War George was 2nd Corporal in the 1st
Company, 3rd Battalion, in the Northampton County Militia (probably under James
R. Thorne). The DAR Index has his name spelled 'Diehl', and that he was born
and died in Pennsylvania.
3,11 George DIHEL II (A SUPPOSITION based on the 1850 Census of Rockbridge Co. VA) married
a Susan, who was born in Ireland about 1783, widowed before 1850, and still cared
for a family of five children: James, Samuel, Franklin, John McHenry, and Elizabeth.

They were both born in Rockbridge Co. VA and died in Mercer Co. IL.
Katherine and William had at least two sons who accompanied their Uncle
Samuel M. Dihel from Indiana to Sunbeam, Illinois to homestead a farm.
David could only have been about six years old. They had come from
Indiana where typhoid fever had wiped out the rest of their families,
and they wanted a new start. When they reached the shores of Lake Michigan
(Chicago or Fort Ross) they were offered some lakefront property in exchange
for their oxen, but needing them for travel and farm work, they refused.
7,1211 Samuel Dihel PAXTON (1839?- ) was living with Uncle Sam and Aunt
Margaret Dihel in Ukiah, CA at age 41 when the 1880 census was taken.

parents, to Clinton County, Indiana, and later to Fountain County, Indiana.
Nancy was born in Israel Township, Preble County, OH, a daughter of Robert M. and
Nancy Bell (BROWN) MILLER. They were married in Clinton County, Indiana and moved
to Sunbeam, IL in October 1846. (Nancy's sister Margaret Catherine married John's
brother Samuel after both of their spouses died.) In 1875 they bought 80 acres and
in 1880 they moved to English River Township in Washington County, Iowa, presumably
to be near their children and grandchildren. Their graves were moved from a country
roadside plot to the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Their stone marker
is ten inches square and about two feet tall, and reads:
